Seeing it run natively on a modern machine isn't just a nostalgic trip; it is a damning indictment of everything we have accepted as 'progress' in the last thirty years.
From the moment I launched the executable, the difference was visceral. There was no splash screen lingering for five seconds while the program called home to a cloud server. There was no 'checking for updates' or 'signing in to your account.' The window simply appeared. The cursor blinked with an urgency that felt almost aggressive. Critics will argue that we need the modern stack for security and compatibility. They are missing the point. The fact that a developer can drag this codebase into the 64-bit era and produce a tool that feels more responsive than its modern descendant suggests that we are building on top of a landfill. We have prioritized the convenience of the developer and the data-harvesting needs of the corporation over the actual experience of the user.
